What is it?
A Corporate Board Member Survey is an anonymous saturation survey of a corporation's Board of Directors on matters of importance to any person serving in that role.
Why do it?
A Board of Directors has enormous impact on the destiny of a company. Understanding the Board's position on fundamental matters and business trends, and its reaction to trauma or opportunity, may significantly enhance the CEO's and top management's relationships with the Board. This is especially valuable when extraordinary opportunities or misadventures arise.
When to do it?
Corporate Board Member Surveys are generally conducted bi-annually, supplemented by rare, event-driven update surveys.
How does it work?
A Corporate Board Member Survey measures Board opinions on any matter which might be more discreetly addressed in an anonymous fashion. It also measures Board attitudes toward areas requiring continuous monitoring, including:
- Ethics of the firm
- Board member compensation
- Quality of communications to the Board
- Frequency, venue and timing of Board meetings
- Board member insurance
- Company image
- The industry's fiscal condition and image
- Senior management's style, candor and presence
- Media coverage
- Perceptions of competition
